Le Klint lamps lights

The idea to create folded lamp shades originates from P.V. Jensen Klint. The well-known architect designed a stoneware oil lamp for which he needed a shape. After having thought about different solutions he had the unique idea to fold a lamp shade. Just a few years later in 1943 Tage Klint established the company Le Klint that is based on the idea of folding lamp shades. Tage Klint added a decisive detail to the folded lamp shades; the great “collar” which is necessary to be able to fix the lamp shades to the metal stands. Jan Klint took the company over in 1953. To assure his employees he created a fund which has been in charge of the company Le Klint since 1972. Former employees, designers and architects also profit by this fund. Another considerable name in connection with Le Klint is Kaare Klint, son of P.V. Klint. Kaare Klint was not only a well-known architect but also a skilled craftsman and designer who had a great influence on the Danish furniture business. Le Klint owes Kaare Klint for example the product “fruit lantern” that he created in 1944. “Fruit lantern” is still one of Le Klint’s most popular lamps. An impressive amount of competent and famous designers and architects has worked for Le Klint in the last years. No doubt this is one of many explanations why Le Klint lamps are considered as “modern classics”. Le Klint’s unique concept, to fold lamp shades, could have never been realised without the support of skilled craftsmen that are called pleaters. In spite of technological novelties, these assiduous, precise and very ably pleaters are indispensable for Le Klint because no machine of the world can ever replace true craftsmanship. The pendant lamp is simply assembled by hand and folds out like a beautiful flower sculpture. Joker was created by Christian Raeder in 1970. Joker gained the first prize at the Scandinavian Lighting fair. Joker is again part of the actual Le Klint collection and is available in white on white and black on white.
